Meaning of Telepathy
Telepathy means the supposed ability to communicate thoughts, feelings, or information directly from one person’s mind to another without using speech, writing, gestures, or other ordinary forms of communication.
The word comes from the Greek roots tele, meaning “distant,” and patheia, meaning “feeling” or “experience.” In simple terms, telepathy is often described as “mind-to-mind communication.”
For example, if a person suddenly thinks intensely about a friend and, at the same moment, the friend supposedly thinks about that person without any communication between them, someone who believes in telepathy might describe this as a telepathic connection.
Telepathy is commonly discussed in parapsychology, spirituality, fiction, and popular culture. However, there is no scientifically established evidence that humans can reliably transmit or receive thoughts directly from one mind to another. Experiences that people interpret as telepathy may sometimes be explained by coincidence, unconscious cues, familiarity with another person’s behaviour, memory biases, or other psychological factors.
In everyday language, therefore, “telepathy” generally refers to the alleged transfer of thoughts or feelings between people without conventional communication.
